This new edition is the perfect classroom companion to the new sixth edition of "Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach".The new features in this edition include: disorders - influenza prevention and treatment, infections in immunocompromised patients, and chemical exposure and emergency preparedness; an appendix which contains useful information on pharmacy and mathematical conversion factors and anthropometrics; 5 introductory chapters: how to use the casebook, active learning strategies, patient communication, written documentation, and care planning; and, 153 revised and updated patient cases involving disease states likely to be encountered by drug therapy decision makers.Realistic patient presentations include medical history, physical examination, and laboratory data followed by a series of questions using a systematic, problem-solving approach. Cases range from uncomplicated (a single disease state) to complex (multiple disease states and drug therapy problems) to accommodate different experience levels of students. Cases are provided by 183 clinicians from 82 different schools of pharmacy, health-care systems, and other institutions in the United States and Canada. Casebook sections are categorized by body organ system to coordinate with the Pharmacotherapy textbook. It develops skills in problem analysis and decision making.
